A 48-year-old head constable who worked at the Kasimedu Fishing Harbour police station hanged himself at his house in the Padalam police quarters in Otteri on Friday.

Police said the constable, S. Dhanapal, had been undergoing treatment for severe neck pain at a private hospital for several months. However, he continued to remain in pain, and unable to bear it, he hanged himself using a dhoti in his bedroom at 6 p.m., when the rest of his family was away. He left a suicide note explaining his reasons. A case has been registered by the Otteri police.
