CHENNAI: The city police have put up posters that warn those who indulge in eve teasing of a fine of Rs. 10,000 and a year in jail.

The posters have been put up outside several schools and colleges and some film theatres. Women police personnel in plainclothes have also been told to monitor these spots .

A poster outside GSS Jain College in Vepery provides phone numbers that women can dial for assistance if they face harassment in the neighbourhood. The contact numbers of Vepery all-women police station (Ph: 23452690/ 9791192481) have been provided.

J. Premalatha, Sub-Inspector at the station, said police personnel went on regular rounds near schools in the neighbourhood and Sangam and Abhirami theatres. She urged the women to register complaints at the nearest police station or all-women police station so that action could be taken against those involved in eve teasing.

V. Sindhu, student of a city college, said more such signboards should be put across the city. Cell phone numbers should be included so that women could immediately call for assistance or report about incidents, she said.
