City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan has directed the Assistant Commissioners of Police of all the four sub-divisions and Station House Officers/ Inspectors of all the 15 police station limits to prepare a list of habitual offenders and trouble- mongers.
Mr.Viswanathan and Deputy Commissioner of Police T. Senthilkumar convened a meeting of Hindu outfits and minority outfit and told them any action amounting to damage to public peace and tranquillity would be dealt with severely.
The Commissioner said that mobilisation of groups and coming on to the road or inciting violence would result in the offenders being booked under National Security Act.
Police have started an exercise to prepare a database of known offenders, habitual trouble makers, those known for rioting, unlawful assembly and causing hurt.
The database would be kept ready and in the event of those in the list that had been prepared being involved in any untoward incident in the future, they would be taken into custody under the National Security Act..
The database under preparation also included offenders against whom warrants are pending.
These warrants would be executed immediately.
