KRISHNAGIRI: Press photographers and videographers of the electronic media were roughed up by the Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel and the local police at the District Sports Stadium in Krishnagiri on Thursday.

Reporters, photographers and the electronic media cameramen were asked to confine themselves in the press enclosure, nearly 100 feet away from the dais erected at the stadium. Mr. Rahul Gandhi came to the dais at around 1.15 p.m. and for some time watched a football match being played in the stadium.

Later he walked around the stadium ignoring the security protocol and sat among school students.

Some of the Congress Party office-bearers called photographers to photograph Mr. Gandhi sitting in the gallery with the school children. When the photographers were crossing the football ground, the SPG personnel and the local police roughed up some cameramen of the electronic media. Sun TV cameraman Parithi Ilamvazhuthi and Jaya TV cameraman Prakash and a few other photographers were beaten up by them. Tamilnadu Union of Journalists has demanded action against the policemen.
