Coimbatore: Activists of various political parties were removed by the police at Gandhipuram when they attempted to stage a picketing agitation in protest against the police in connection with the clash that took place with the lawyers at the Madras High Court in Chennai on February 19.

The activists had called for an agitation to condemn the police “high-handedness” and “violent” attacks.

Defying denial of police permission to stage the agitation, the activists gathered and were removed, the police said.

General Secretary of Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, K. Ramakrishnan, R.R. Mohan Kumar of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Arumugam of All India Trade Union Congress led the agitators.
