They reportedly used abusive language over telephone

“The police have registered a case against two persons attached to the Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) for allegedly using abusive language and threatening Senthamangalam MLA R. Santhi over phone,” Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Kannammal told The Hindu here on Friday.

The case was registered based on a complaint from the MLA at the Ayilpatti Police Station, Rasipuram Taluk, earlier that day.

Ms. Santhi told reporters here that she received a call from Pandi, claimed to be a DMDK cadre, allegedly threatening her for meeting the Chief Minister in Chennai, earlier this week.

“Senthamangalam Union Secretary of the party Ms. Sathya also used his phone to abuse and threaten me,” she said and raised suspicion on the role of DMDK District Secretary and Tiruchengode MLA P. Sampathkumar behind it.

She reiterated that she was still loyal to the DMDK and that her meeting with CM was only to discuss developmental activities to be carried out in her assembly segment.

Police sources said that a case was registered against the two under Sections 294 (b) and 506 (i) of the Indian Penal Code for using abusive language and for threatening to harm the MLA.

Ms. Kannammal said that the call details of the MLA will be verified on Saturday before any action is initiated action against those persons who were allegedly involved in it.

The SP added that seven police personnel have been deputed to provide protection for MLA of Senthamangalam (ST) Assembly Segment as a precautionary measure.

They are deployed in two teams of three persons — each headed by a Sub Inspector — to guard her house and her office from Thursday.

The other person will be acting as her personal security officer. This arrangement will continue for two more days, the SP said.
