TIRUCHI: A temporary police outpost was opened in the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple here on Wednesday in connection with the forthcoming ‘Vaikunta Ekadesi’ festival.

Commissioner of Police Karuna Sagar opened the outpost in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) S. Rajendiran, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Rupesh Kumar Meena and senior city police officers.

The outpost will be headed by an Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police. He will be assisted by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Two Inspectors and policemen.

Police sources said the outpost would function till the conclusion of the festival and entertain complaints relating to crimes or missing persons inside the temple from the general public. A dedicated telephone number would soon be provided to the outpost to enable public reach it over phone.

The sources said speed dome surveillance cameras would be installed at vantage points within the temple premises and video cameras be utilised to capture the happenings inside. A detailed security scheme was under preparation.
