Pollachi police have begun an inquiry into a case of cheating against five persons for cheating a person of Rs. 5,000 to provide temple kalasam made of iridium.

According to police, Ganesan (52) of Jalakandapuram in Salem received a call from Chinnathambi of Udumalpet in Tirupur district stating that a costly kalasam with iridium was up for sale.

The caller told the person that he could sell the same for a heavy price and make a fortune.

On Tuesday, the person concerned came to the Pollachi bus stand and five people identifying themselves to be representatives of Chinnathambi handed over a small bronze pot and said that the rest of the material made of iridium would be given to him by Chinnathambi and went away with the cash Rs 5,000. When Ganesan tried to call Chinnathambi’s mobile it remained switched off.

This led to Ganesan realising that he had been cheated.
