The Police Department has established a round-the-clock check-post at Ponneri to prevent entry of criminals into the Yelagiri Hills.

Inspector-General of Police, North Zone, C. Sylendra Babu said that earlier, miscreants used to sit on the parapet walls enroute to the Yelagiri Hills and consume liquor. Police vigil was stepped up a few months ago and the practice has been completely stopped. “There is a check-post of the Commercial Taxes Department at Ponneri. We have now established our check-post which will be manned round the clock to prevent the entry of criminals into the tourist spot. We will also be able to prevent culprits from escaping after committing offences at the Yelagiri Hills. Personnel at the check-post will be alerted through wireless and culprits nabbed,” he said. Mr. Babu visited the spot on Saturday.
