“It is the prerogative of Collector to take such a decision”

Pattali Makkal Katchi on Tuesday questioned the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government for its order barring S. Ramadoss, PMK founder, from entering certain districts. Speaking on a debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, PMK MLA Kaduvetti J. Guru asked why Dr. Ramadoss should be barred when he had not delivered any provocative speech and there were no violent incidents prior to his arrival or after his departure in any district. He had spoken only about the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

C.K. Thamizharasan (Republican Party of India) said barring the entry of politician was not a new practice, as it happened to him and the Puthiya Tamilagam leader K. Krishnasamy during the DMK regime. Leader of the House O. Panneerselvam said it was the prerogative of the Collector to take decisions to maintain law and order.

“Political parties used it as a tool to avert violence and make the State a peaceful place to live in”
