Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss has urged party cadres in Puducherry to consolidate Vanniyar votes to help the party come to power in the Union Territory.
“The Vanniyars constitute 70 per cent of the population in the Union Territory. If the party manages to attract bulk of the Vanniyar votes, it can come to power. If the party is able to win 10 Assembly seats, it can form the next government,” he said, addressing cadres after inaugurating the party office here on Saturday.
While consolidating Vanniyar votes, cadres should try to gather support of youth belonging to Dalit and fishermen communities, he said. Making it clear that the party did not adopt double standards when it came to imposing a ban on sale of liquor in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, he said if the party came to power in the Union Territory, it would impose prohibition.
Condemning the arrest of PMK district secretary of Karaikal, Devamani, under the National Security Act, Dr. Ramadoss said it was political vendetta. The party would fight the case in court, he said, adding that a demonstration would be held at Karaikal on Monday.
