The Pattali Makkal Katchi or the Vanniyar Sangham had not instigated the November 7 violence against the three Dalit colonies at Naikkankottai village in the district, founder-leader of the PMK S. Ramadoss said here on Thursday.

At a public meeting, Dr. Ramadoss condemned parties that targeted the PMK and the Vanniyar Sangham on the attack on the colonies and wanted the CB-CID probe to bring out the truth. The PMK was not averse to a Central Bureau of Investigation probe either, he said.

He appealed to the police not to continue arresting people from the Vanniyar community.

Many of them had fled Chellankottai and nearby villages, fearing arrest. Chellankottai is located less than a kilometre from Naikkankottai village. Dr. Ramadoss contended that the Vanniyar Sangam was not against any caste, especially Dalits.

Dr. Ramadoss demanded a special police cell to end harassment of women in the State. Police personnel of the special cell should be deployed in the vicinity of the colleges and schools. The menace of harassment of women was a major reason for violence at many places, he said. Exclusive bus services should be operated for women, particularly for women going to college.
