Pattali Makkal Katchi members, led by their president G.K. Mani staged a novel protest by sporting blinds and carrying kerosene lanterns to protest against the power cuts in the State here on Monday.

The cadre, covering their eyes with a piece of black cloth and carrying lanterns, raised slogans against the State Government for not taking concrete measures to address the power problem. Mr. Mani, while addressing the protestors, claimed that all sections of society, especially students, weavers, farmers, industrialists and common men, were severely affected due to prolonged power cuts both during day and night hours.

He alleged that the AIADMK government had failed to initiate any concrete action to solve the problem that had crippled the State economy and livelihood of thousands. The present government, he said, had not taken any steps in the last eight months to address the burning issue. He urged the government to take steps to get additional power from the Central pool immediately.

Meanwhile, cadre of Salem district CPI (M) also staged a demonstration protesting against the power cuts.

Patali Makkal Katchi cadres, including women, staged demonstrations at Namakkal, Rasipuram, Tiruchengode and Paramathi Velur on Monday urging the government to put an end to the power shortage.
