Plus Two examinations got off to a smooth start in various parts of the Nilgiris on Thursday.

As apprehended, there were no problems on the power front as feeders near the examination centres numbering 32 in the Coonoor and Gudalur education districts were exempted from the power cuts between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 12 noon.

The Nilgiris Collector, Archana Patnaik, inspected a centre at the Government Higher Secondary School here to ensure that all arrangements were in place.

Education Department sources said that the total number of absentees was 101.

A total of 4,936 students, including 2,729 girls in the Coonoor education district, and 2,691 students, including 1,368 girls in the Gudalur education district, were scheduled to appear for the examinations.
