7,400 students appear in Coonoor, Gudalur educational districts

Udhagamandalam: The Plus Two examinations got under way without a hitch in various parts of the Nilgiris district on Monday.

Chief Educational Officer S.R.Sivagnanam told The Hindu that 7,400 students in the Coonoor and Gudalur educational districts appeared for the examinations. The number of examination centres was 23 in Coonoor educational district and 8 in Gudalur.

He said the Nilgiris revenue district had been divided into six points and 12 persons had been entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding the question papers.

To ensure that students do not resort to copying over 74 flying squads had been formed.

Security

Security had been provided to each centre to prevent entry of unauthorised persons. Between 400 and 500 officials had been drafted for examination duty.

Regarding the use of footwear inside the examination halls, Mr. Sivagnanam said that it had been left to the discretion of the officials in-charge of the respective centres.

Meanwhile, the police said that steps had been taken to prevent disturbances near the examination centres. Use of public address systems had been prohibited.
