A total of 37,702 candidates in Salem educational district appeared for the higher secondary examinations on Thursday.

Students from 48 government schools, 16 government aided schools and 13 self-financing institutions sat for the examinations at 77 centres.

The candidates include 17,125 boys, 17,892 girls and 2,685 private candidates. District Collector K. Maharabushanam along with Chief Educational Officer R. Eswaran inspected examination centres across the district.

The district education department had made elaborate arrangements for the examination by ensuring availability of generators at all the examination centres.

Mobile phones

Usage of mobile phones by the students and teachers was banned inside the examination centres.

As many as 120 teachers formed into 25 flying squads inspected examination centres to prevent malpractices by students.

The examination that began on Thursday will continue till March 30. Police personnel were posted at examination centres and entry of strangers was restricted.
