The Lake and Tank Water Sources Protection Movement, an umbrella organisation of social activists and environmentalists, has appealed to the government to give up the move to establish a bus stand on the dried up Murungampakkam lake bed near Tindivanam.

The Movement, at a meeting held at Tindivanam recently, adopted a resolution. It noted that the officials should decide on the suitable site for the bus stand after having consultations with all political parties, social organisations and dignitaries.

It also proposed to distribute handouts to create awareness of the need to safeguard water sources.

As a follow-up measure, it would organise a signature campaign, a rally and a public meeting.
