The Janata Dal (Secular) has appealed to the State Government to continue the welfare schemes introduced by the previous regime.
In a message to the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, the State general secretary of the party, K. John Moses, said that the priorities of the new government should be to control spiralling prices, put an end to continuing power cut and maintain law and order. The Janata Dal (S) appealed to Ms. Jayalalithaa to initiate steps to end the sufferings of Sri Lankan Tamils. Mr. Moses also congratulated the Election Commission for successfully conducting the Assembly polls in a fair and democratic manner.
The former general secretary of the Madurai district Congress committee, R. Chockkalingam, described the election verdict as a triumph of democracy. In a statement, he expressed confidence that the new government would work for the development of the State with people's welfare in mind and provide impartial governance.
