Coimbatore: The submission of plea on sentences and arguments by the accused and defence counsel before the Special Court for bomb blasts cases got over here on Thursday.
Eighteen accused submitted a written representation stating that they were willing to adopt arguments and plea advanced by defence counsel Bhavani B. Mohan for the other accused. The Special Court is expected to resume pronouncement of sentences for 42 accused (on bail) found guilty of minor charges. On September 28, the court had awarded sentences to 49 accused on bail.
Defence counsel Mohammed Zachariah appearing for Ashraf Ali, the 144th accused, said his client was falsely implicated for refusing to give evidence against a friend, Siddiq Ali, son of Syed Ahmed Basha. There had been no incriminating recovery from the accused. He urged the court award lesser punishment to him.
