TIRUNELVELI: The Indian Union Muslim League’s Tirunelveli wing has proposed to meet the External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and officials of his department to urge them to take steps to ensure early release of Indian prisoners in the jails of Saudi Arabia.

After coming to know that over 3,000 Indians including more than 1,000 Tamils have been lodged in the prisons across Saudi Arabia for not having valid immigration documents and work permit, the Indian Union Muslim League’s Tirunelveli City district secretary Milleth Ismail submitted a petition to Collector R. Palaniyandi recently.

“The Collector has been forwarded the petition to the Public Department’s Foreign Affairs section, from where it will be routed to the Ministry of External Affairs for appropriate action,” said a top official in Tirunelveli.
