The State Government must fix the minimum wages for domestic workers and strictly enforce its implementation, the Tamil Nadu Joint Action Forum of National Trade Unions has demanded.

The Forum has presented its charter of demands to the State Labour Minister S.T. Chellapandian on Wednesday, in which it stressed among other things the need to improve societal acceptance of domestic work as ‘work’ and domestic workers as ‘workers’. The demands were based on the consensus at a day-long jamboree conducted last month among domestic workers from all the over the State.
