Udhagamandalam: The 90th Annual General Meeting of the Nilgiri Wayanad Planters Association (NWPA) and the 16th Area Scientific Conference were held at Pandhalur, near Gudalur recently.

Participating as the chief guest, the Director, United Planters Association of Southern India-Tea Research Institute (UPASI-TRI), Valparai P.Mohan Kumar, stressed the need to implement a number of developmental schemes in various sectors of the tea industry.

The chairman, P.M. Poonacha listed the problems confronting the plantation industry.

Participants referred to the recent developments vis a vis mechanisation, nursery management and soil health management.

The following were elected office-bearers of the NWPA for 2009-2010:

P.M. Poonacha (chairman), Daya Achaya (vice-chairman), K.J. Mahesh Nair, Praveen Yadav, M.C. Aiyanna, Rajkumar and Ashok Rampuria (executive committee members) and M. Vasudevan (secretary).
