University officials will visit each district to meet candidates

MADURAI: Grievance redressal will be just a step away for thousands of distance education students of Madurai Kamaraj University spread across the State.

Soon, the authorities will start visiting each district to meet candidates and settle their grievances with regard to mark statement, provisional certificates, name errors, printing mistakes etc.

The MKU officials say that direct contact with students will not only help students but also enable the varsity to "keep its student strength intact."

According to M. Thirumalai, Additional Controller of Examinations, a meeting will be conducted in every district headquarters on a particular day and candidates of any year/batch with grievances can attend it to represent their grievances.

"The schedule of dates is under preparation and it will be publicised through media and respective study centres in districts. Our intention is to keep the Directorate of Distance Education complaint-free," Mr. Thirumalai said on Friday.

Any grievance on admissions or study materials also will be immediately attended to at the meeting with students.

The Additional Controller pointed out that when private marketing companies were having direct marketing methods, such a mechanism became more important for any university to retain the student strength in the wake of intense competition.

A full session from morning to evening will be arranged for every district in which local students can submit their complaints.

Mr. Thirumalai was of the view that student support activity was essential since "students need not be at the mercy of the university. When they are paying fees, they have every right to ask for better services."

After covering all the districts in Tamil Nadu, the focus would shift to other States, he said.
