Collector M. Rajendran has announced a plan to plant tree saplings along river banks in the district with the help of students.

Speaking at World Consumer Rights Day celebrations organised recently by the Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department of Tamil Nadu government, he said consumption has a close relationship with global warming.

“More consumption causes more pollution and unnecessary consumption only aggravates global warming. There are eight important rivers that flow in the district, including the Cheyyaru. I had sought details and found that out of 860 panchayats in the district, 292 are situated on river banks. So, we have decided to plant saplings on the banks with the help of school students,” he said.

District Revenue Officer C. Kadiravan, District Supply Officer N. Dharanipathi and Joint Director of Medical Services N. Vijayakumar were present.
