Tuticorin: New pipelines for drinking water supply were laid on First and Second Street of Melashanmugapuram and on Perumal Street at an estimated cost of Rs.17.25 lakh.

P. Geetha Jeevan, Minister for Social Welfare, inaugurated the project.

Similarly drinking water pipelines were laid at from streets one to nine in Kurunji Nagar and in Polepettai West here. Sources said the pipelines at Polepettai were laid for a distance of 2.7 km while in Melashanmugapuram and Perumal street for a distance of two km.

The supply of drinking water has started from Wednesday evening.

Subsequently, the Mayor, R. Kasthuri Thangam, handed over 40 tricycles under the solid waste management scheme to scavengers for collection of garbage in the town.
