CUDDALORE: Members of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam staged demonstrations in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts on Monday, condemning the alleged phone tapping incidents.
The partymen, led by T. Jayakumar, secretary of the All India M.G.R. Mandram, and district secretary M.C. Sampath, assembled in front of the Collectorate and raised slogans against the practice of phone tapping in the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime.
They alleged that the government was eavesdropping on the conversations of the Opposition leaders and higher officials.
The cadres wanted Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to resign for such reasons. At Villupuram, the partymen, led by former Minister C.Ve. Sampath, gathered at the Periyar statue and decried the phone tapping incidents. They urged the government “not to spy” on the Opposition leaders and the high-ranking officials by tapping their telephones.
