SALEM: Cadres of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here on Monday as a part of their statewide protest condemning the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Government for allegedly tapping the phones of Opposition leaders and higher officials in the State.
The cadres sought the resignation of the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on moral grounds. They pointed out that when former Karnataka Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde faced a similar charge, he stepped down owning moral responsibility.
They condemned the State Government for trying to stifle the voice of Opposition parties. The party also criticised the State Government for its failure to check the spiralling prices of essential commodities and various goods, which had affected a large number of people in the State. The power shortage in the State had severely affected the small scale industries, they pointed out.
Senior leader of the party Edapadi K. Palanisamy led the protest.
