Students of postgraduate science departments in National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi (NIT-T) enjoy the unique advantage of interacting with various engineering departments and access to subject experts from industry and academia invited from all over the world, according to N. The M.Sc. programmes in Chemistry, Physics, and Operations Research & Computer Applications that the NIT-T offers has been attracting students from all over India.

M.Sc. Chemistry students have contributed immensely with a high level of scholarly achievements, earning for the department recognition as one of the major postgraduate centres in Chemistry. The department has been cited for its excellence, Prof. Anantharaman said. The department has a fully functional advanced laboratory for the M.Sc. programme, and research activities of the department have gained momentum with funding from various government agencies, he said.

Likewise, the department of Physics provides excellent academic and research opportunities for students, covering all core courses in the subject and electives on various advanced topics including nano science, thin films, non-destructive testing and lasers. Students of the department undergo a semester-long project work on frontier research topics. The two-year M.Sc. in Operations Research & Computer Application, Dr. Anantharaman said, was designed to cater to the growing need for Operations Research and Data Analytic Specialists in IT and ITES industry. The course also equips the students effectively for a research career in Computer Applications. The course has the enviable record of placement and producing GATE scholars in Computer Science also.
