PFBR at Kalpakkam to be operational from Sept ‘14

The 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam should be operational by September 2014, said Prabhat Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Ltd.

The installation work was currently taking place at the PFBR which should be operational by September 2014. A year later, it would begin supplying power commercially, he told reporters before flagging of a nuclear energy awareness rally here on Tuesday.

The rally was flagged off on beach road by Chief Secretary M. Sathiyavathy and Mr. Prabhat Kumar. The aim was to emphasize the need for nuclear energy in the Indian context. Over 100 students from the Sri Aravindar Engineering College participated in the event and distributed flyers to the people along the way.

The rally started on beach road and ended at the college in Sedarapet. The event was organized by the Sri Aravindar Engineering College along with Bhavini.
