The Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) officials arrested five persons, including a salesman at a Tasmac-run IMFL outlet, on the charges of illegally transporting liquor from the district to Coonoor.

Police sources said a total of 29 liquor bottles, 900 duplicate labels and bottle lids of renowned liquor brands and four motorcycles were seized from the accused.

The accused, R. Mohan (32), the salesman at IMFL outlet, K. Senthil (42), R. Palanisamy (39), C. Ravi (26) and F. Ravikumar (32), were caught during a random vehicle check conducted at Avinashiapalayam in the district.

Official sources said even the liquor found inside the bottle was mixed with water.

Three accomplices of the people arrested managed to give a slip to the PEW officials.
