Setting up of permanent statutory wage board for revising pay and pension periodically and increase in fixed medical allowance from Rs. 300 to Rs. 1,500 a month were the core demands made during the 8th Annual General Body Meeting of Telecom BSNL Pensioners’ Association held here recently.

M. Amirthalingam, former Deputy General Manager, presided. S. Semmalai, MP, C. Sekar, DGM, BSNL Salem were present.

The meeting resolved to restore commutation of pension after 12 years as already recommended by Fifth Central Pay Commission (CPC).

The other demands included, providing housing facility or grant CCA and HRA at 10 per cent to pensioners, sanction travel concession or pilgrimage grant once in four years, funeral grant of Rs. 10,000 on the death of pensioner or family pensioner, 50 per cent concession in all public transport system and metropolitan buses and establishing old age home in all the district headquarters as already proposed by the Central Government.

The association, including members from Salem, Namakkal and Dharmapuri districts participated in the meeting.

The following were elected new office-bearers: M.P. Velusamy (president), M. Amirthalingam (vice-president), K. Ramani (secretary) and R. Ilango (treasurer).
