Rs.6 lakh given to 359 flood-hit people

SIVAGANGA: Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments K.R. Periakaruppan on Monday toured various flood-affected areas in the district.

Accompanied by Collector Pankaj Kumar Bansal, he met the farmers and people affected by the flood in Sivaganga, Thirupattur, Manamadurai, Ilayankudi, Karaikudi and Devakottai areas.

He disbursed assistance to the tune of Rs.6 lakh to 359 people whose houses were damaged in the flood.

Mr. Periakaruppan said the Government had allotted Rs.100 crore to help those affected in the State.

Funds will not be a problem for those affected in the district.

Officials of Revenue, Agriculture, Horticulture and others were deputed to take stock of the property and crop loss to the people as well as farmers.

All would be given compensation as per the Government norms.

As per the initial estimate, 5,771 hectares of various standing crops were damaged because of incessant rain.

Paddy crops raised in 2,400 hectares were badly hit. There were reports that cotton, sugar, chilli crops were also affected.

House compensation

He said the owners of houses, which had collapsed, would be given Rs.4,000.

Compensation for partly damaged houses was Rs.2,000. If it was a joint house, the compensation would be Rs.1,500.

Rice, kerosene to be given

Besides, 2 litres of kerosene, 5 kg rice, a set of dhoti and sari would also be distributed to each affected family.
