PERAMBALUR: The Union Minister for Environment and Forests, A. Raja, disbursed loans to the tune of Rs.1.17 crore, provided by the Canara Bank to farmers and members of self-help groups at a function held here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Raja said several development programmes would be implemented in the district in course of time. The entire rural administration would be computerised within two years facilitating the villagers to obtain their land records without any hitch.

The Collector, Anil Meshram, presided over the function.

The Deputy General Manager of the Canara Bank, S. Nagarajan, said the bank had so far sanctioned loans to the tune of Rs.15.50 crore against a target of Rs. 17 crore. The bank would adopt Velloore and would sanction loans to all the eligible villagers.

The Chairperson of the District Panchayat, Kodiyarasi Doraiswamy, the MLA, M. Rajkumar, the Perambalur Municipal chairman, N. Ilaiyaraja, the Canara Bank Perambalur branch manager, S. Narayanan, and others spoke.

Mr. Raja distributed loans to 171 farmers and members of the SHGs on the occasion.
