Differently abled persons need social understanding to lead a normal life and the State government was extending all possible assistance to the physically challenged, according to Collector S. Jayandhi.
Speaking after disbursing welfare assistance and government monthly pension orders to differently abled persons at a function here on Thursday, Ms. Jayandhi said that 10 differently abled persons were being granted motor-powered tricycles each worth Rs. 46,000, while another 10 persons were being given motorised sewing machines each worth Rs.6,000.
The State government was extending marriage assistance to eligible physically challenged persons and monthly pension of Rs.1,000 was a worthy assistance to them, she said.
Priority was being accorded to the physically challenged in MNREGS , while another Rs.5 lakh was being set apart for their welfare activities from the MLAs Constituency Development Fund.
A total of 13,276 differently abled persons have been sanctioned identity cards following the screening camps held over the time. During 2011-12, a total of 1,513 differently abled persons were granted Rs. 1.67 crore as welfare assistance while during the current year 1,526 persons have been granted Rs.77 lakh as welfare aid so far.
