CHENNAI: The Accountant General’s Office (AGO) has launched a service that will provide information to State Government pensioners/General Provident Fund subscribers through SMS.

In the first phase, AGO will send information suo motu to pensioners immediately on receipt of their pension application. After pension is authorised, an SMS will again be sent to the pensioner. If the application is returned for any defect, that information will be conveyed through SMS.

In the second phase, the system will be expanded to cover final withdrawal of GPF and enquiries. AGO will also publish a mobile number, to which enquiries can be sent by SMS. AGO will reply by SMS through an automated system, according to an official release. — Special Correspondent
