A peahen, aged about three years, that strayed about 15 km from Jambuthu forest area, near Chinnapallamparai, and accidentally entered a house at Senthamangalam was rescued by forest department personnel on Thursday. It was carefully rescued and released at the foothills of Kolli Hills, later in the day.

Locals said that peacocks and peahens lived in large numbers in the Jambuthu forest area and at times they accidentally strayed into nearby villages – Akkiyampatti and Senthamangalam.

On Thursday, the locals spotted the peahen weighing about five kg in the house of Balasubramanian at Senthamangalam and informed forest department personnel, after which it was rescued by them.
