The Civil Supplies CID wing on Tuesday arrested Manoharan, a salesman at a public distribution outlet at Dharapuram taluk, for alleged malpractice.

Inspector (Civil Supplies CID) V. Balamurugan said the accused had stocked excess quantity of rice and kerosene vis-à-vis the permissible quantity for the stipulated number of ration cards and hence, arrested. A total of one tonne of rice and few cans of kerosene were recovered from the storage area of the outlet. As many as 56 ration cards too were found inside the locked PDS outlet, he added. He said that malpractice was detected by revenue officials who conducted checks at the outlet following a tip off.
