Coimbatore district officials have seized 2,000 kg rice meant for public distribution system on Saturday. According to the officials, a team led by officers of the Flying Squad received a tip-off stating that a lorry carrying rice bags was on its way to Kerala. The officials lay in wait for the lorry on the Kuniamuthur-Sundarapuram Road. Around 5.30 a.m. Saturday, officials said that the team attempted to intercept the lorry but the driver did not stop the vehicle.

After a chase, the officials managed to force the driver to stop the vehicle near the Sundarapuram market.

The officials found the vehicle carrying 2,000 kg rice in 40 white plastic bags.
