A flying squad seized four tonnes of rice meant for public distribution system when three persons tried to smuggle it into Kerala on Monday. According to sources, based on specific information, a flying squad led by Tahsildar Vasuki undertook vehicle check at Kavalkinaru (Tirunelveli-Kanyakumari district border). They stopped a tempo laden with banana. When they checked the tempo, four tonnes of PDS rice was found hidden.

In the meantime, the driver and the cleaner escaped from the scene. The flying squad seized the PDS rice along with the tempo and handed it over to the officials of District Supply office.
