The Union Minister of State for Finance S.S.Palani Manickam inaugurated the new town panchayat building constructed at a cost of Rs. 26.5 lakh at Madukkur near Pattukottai on Saturday.
He said that efforts would be made to make Madukkur town panchayat into a taluk. A women's polytechnic college will be established at Pattukottai under HR and CE department.
He also laid the foundation stone for two sanitary complexes to come up at a cost of Rs. 12 lakh to be funded by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and road works to be taken up at a cost of Rs. 83 lakh in the panchayat.
M.S.Shanmugham, Collector, said that out of 22 town panchayats in the district, 15 have their own office buildings.
New bus stands have been constructed at Vallam, Thirukattuppalli, Thiruvaiyaru town panchayats.
Road works to the tune of Rs. 14.55 crore is going on in all the 22 town panchayats in the district, he said. N.R.Rangarajan, MLA, said that State government has taken up the construction of a coconut complex at Pattukottai.
