Branches of three banks have won prizes in recognition of their performance in the area of credit linkage for self-help groups in 2011-12 formed by the Mahalir Thittam.
The Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies in Esanai and Ammapalayam and the Canara Bank’s branch in Perambalur got the first, second, and third prizes respectively for their performance.
Darez Ahmed, District Collector, gave away a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, Rs.10,000, and Rs. 5,000 to the branches and a certificate.
The Collector said these branches had played a key role in the economic uplift of the self-help groups by sanctioning loans on a priority basis.
He said that till 2011-12, the Mahalir Thittam had formed 5,104 self-help groups and their total savings stood at Rs. 14.37 crore and the credit linkage for these groups was Rs. 22.20 crore.
He said the Tiruchi District Central Cooperative Bank (TDCCB) had been selected for the district-level prize.
