In an effort to eliminate the ordeal faced by applicants in getting online appointment for submission of passport applications, Coimbatore Passport Office, on Friday, announced that senior citizens applying for fresh and re-issue of passports (renewal) and all categories of normal re-issue of applications could be submitted by walking in from Monday (November 5).

Applicants for these categories need not obtain online appointment.

Passport Officer S. Sasikumar said that under the Passport Seva Project, the procedures are periodically reviewed and new measures introduced in order to improve the service in passport offices. These new measures and procedures are aimed at ensuring less hassle for applicants, improvement in delivery of passport services, transparency and enhanced security.

The Passport Office has already introduced walk-in facility for the following eight categories of applicants:

Infants below three years of age whose parents hold valid passports, physically challenged persons, applications for issue of police clearance certificate, applications for re-issue (additional booklet) when all pages in the existing passport are exhausted, applications for re-issue in lieu of change in Emigration Check Required (ECR) status without change in any other particulars, applications for re-issue with spouse’s name endorsement without change in other particulars.

In addition, this facility has also been extended to Government servants who have identity cards and no objection certificates from their organisations, their dependent family members besides all categories of tatkal applications.

Register applications

The walk-in applicants are required to register their applications online and obtain an ARN number at least 24 hours in advance and visit the Passport Seva Kendra, Coimbatore, between 10 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.

Applicants are also requested not to queue up before 10 a.m. Under any circumstances, tatkal applications will not be converted into normal applications and vice-versa.

The applicants should also verify or refer to any advisory issued by the Passport Office from time to time.

In general, other category of applicants having confirmed appointments and who are unable to visit the Passport Seva Kendra due to unavoidable reasons are advised to reschedule/cancel their appointments at least 15 hours prior to the scheduled date and time.

In case of the applicant not turning up at the scheduled time and date, the data captured for the applicant will be deleted from the system and such applicants will be required to fill up the data again to obtain fresh appointments.
