Regional Passport Office, Coimbatore, is organising a passport mela for Haj pilgrims on March 10 at the Passport Service Kendra.

It will begin at 9.30 a.m. at the Kendra at 25, AGT Business Park, Near Lotus Eye Hospital, Avanashi Road, Civil Aerodrome Post, Coimbatore 641 014.


A release from S. Sasikumar, Regional Passport Officer, says that two officials from the Tamil Nadu Haj Committee will be present at the mela to assist the RPO officials in identifying applications from genuine, aspiring Haj pilgrims.

M. Karunagaran, District Collector, will inaugurate the mela.

Mr. Sasikumar says that residents of the Nilgris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Namakkal and Salem, who intend to perform Haj, could make use of the opportunity.


Applications for issuance of ordinary international passport with a validity of 10 years both under normal course as well as tatkal with necessary documentation will also be accepted at the mela.

Applicants who have registered online could approach the Passport Service Kendra as ‘walk-in' applicants along with the valid application receipt number (ARN) sheet, between 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. on the day and they need not schedule their online appointment.

Mr. Sasikumar appealed to the applicants to not visit the PSK before 8.30 a.m. to stand in queues to submit applications.


In a related development, The Coimbatore District Jama-ath has said that since the Tamil Nadu Haj Committee has announced April 16 as the last date for receipt of applications, those interested should submit their applications before the deadline.

They should also furnish a photocopy of their international passport.

To ensure that there is no delay, those interested should make use of the passport mela, the Jama-ath asks in a release and adds that for clarification people could dial Haji M.I. Mohammad Ali on 94437-77337.
