A medical camp was conducted at the Vadaserry bus stand here on Sunday in commemoration of World Health Day.

A team of 24 doctors and paramedical staff from Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital at Asaripallam measured the height, weight of passengers and checked them for pressure level. The doctors gave tips for diet and fitness.

Team leader Dr. Suresh Balan said that 23 per cent of men and 22 per cent of women were affected by high blood pressure which would lead to heart attack, blocks in arteries of the heart, paralytic attack, kidney failure, blindness etc.

He told the people who were screened at the camp to quit smoking, drinking, and avoid excess salt in food. He asked those with high blood pressure to practice yoga, exercise and meditation to bring it under control.
