Tiruchi-Howrah, Vaigai expresses suffer delay
A Cuddalore-bound passenger train from Tiruchi dashed against a tractor-trailer killing one near Pullambadi in Tiruchi-Ariyalur broad gauge section on Tuesday evening.
The accident on the chord line section led to the detention of the passenger (Train No. 56806) for over an hour near the accident spot. Consequently, the Tiruchi — Howrah and Chennai — Madurai Vaigai expresses also suffered detentions at Kattur and Kallakudi Palanganatham respectively. The accident occurred at unmanned gate -217 around 4.40 p.m. a little over an hour after the passenger train left Tiruchi Junction.
Railway sources said the tractor — trailer carrying hay from Mullar village to Perambalur was just crossing the railway line at the unmanned gate when the passenger train hit the trailer. In the impact, the vehicle overturned and the four occupants were thrown away, locals said. One of the occupants A. Subramani (50), seated adjacent to the tractor driver, died moments after the accident. The tractor driver V. Sathurappan (48) and two others — M. Ramar (60) and R. Perumal (50) sustained injuries and were admitted to the Government Hospital at Lalgudi.
