The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and the Department of School Education are recruiting part-time teachers for conducting co-curricular activities and co-scholastic programmes of the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system.
Even though there are only 137 posts, over 800 applications were sold on Friday alone.
At least 1,000 more applications were being additionally printed to meet the demand. Saturday was the last day for issuing applications, said Coimbatore Additional Chief Education Officer (SSA) R. Thiruvalarselvi.
The applications must be submitted before April 30.
She said that the recruitment was being done for subjects such as communication skills, music, physical education, arts, computer science, tailoring, horticulture (gardening), and life skill sessions such as moral instruction, health and sanitation.
Those recruited would be posted at government middle, high and higher secondary schools as part-time instructors. Recruitment would be based on seniority in the employment exchange, Ms. Thiruvalarselvi emphasised.
