Officials should strictly adhere to the model code of conduct during the course of the election to local bodies, said B.Maheswari, District Collector.

Addressing an all-party meeting convened here on Tuesday evening, the Collector said that norms should be strictly adhered to. Permission for the use of vehicles, publicity materials and other aspects of campaigning should be in accordance with the guidelines. She also said that the licensed arms should be deposited with the Collectorate.

The proceedings would be video graphed wherever necessary, as per the directive of the State Election Commission. She sought the cooperation of the representatives of political parties for ensuring smooth, free and fearless conduct of the elections.

M.S.Muthusamy, Superintendent of Police, said since the elections to local bodies involved local issues, police should exercise caution. He said that the sensitive booths should be identified for taking preventive measures.
