PERAMBALUR: Irked by the non-posting of additional teachers, a group of villagers shut down the Adi-Dravidar Welfare Primary School at Ammapalayam near here on Monday.The school, with strength of about 130 students, was being manned by a single teacher, according to villagers. Their prolonged demand for posting additional teachers was yet to be conceded. They said that the academic performance of their wards was not up to the mark.

Revenue Divisional Officer Prasanna Venkatesan and police officers, who rushed to the spot, held talks with them. Order was restored following an assurance to the villagers that steps would be taken to post additional teachers. — Staff Reporter
