The members of Kovaipudur Manavarkal Petrorkal Nalasangham staged a protest at Rukmani Kannan Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kovaipudur, against the school management for collecting excess fee, here on Monday.

According to the association, around 200 parents took part in the protest.

The association alleged that without the consent of parents, the management had fixed an amount which was 200 per cent more than what was recommended by the Private Schools Fee Determination Committee.

The fee was collected towards providing smart classrooms and other extra curricular activities. They alleged that the management discriminated against the students whose parents disagreed to pay the excess amount.

According to the association, the management was collecting Rs. 6,500 to Rs. 10,000 apart from the fee fixed by the fee recommendation committee.

However, the school management denied all charges. It said that with the fee fixed by the committee the school would not be able to conduct extra curricular classes and provide other facilities. The parents who wished to give those facilities to their children were asked to pay the amount. A few of the parents were raising protests for no reasons, said a representative of the management.

The school management and the parents on Monday, in the presence of the R. Guneshakaran, Inspector of Matriculation Schools, Coimbatore, had agreed to conduct a meeting on December 10 to reach an amicable solution.

According to R. Gunasekaran, the fee recommendation committee allowed schools to collect extra fee for the additional facilities provided only with the consent of parents.

Parents and management will conduct a meeting on December 10
