PALANI: The Ten-day ‘Panguni uthiram’ festival, one of the famous annual festivals, will commence with flag hoisting at Thiru Avinankudi temple in the temple town on April 2.
Kaapu kattu ceremony will take place on the hill temple at noon on the same day. Thirukalyanam (celestial wedding) will be performed on April 7 and the car festival will be at 4.30 p.m. on April 8.
Utsavamurthy Lord Muthukumaraswami along with Goddesses Sri Valli and Deivanai will be also taken out in a procession in the morning and at night during festival days. Othuvars will chant Thevaram and Thiruppugazh in the procession.
Every day, the idols will be mounted on various vahanas, including chapparam, ivory palanquin, Kamadhenu, golden peacock, goat, silver elephant, silver chariot and on golden horse.
Thousands of devotees from Erode district will carry theertham (holy water) from the Cauvery at Kodumudi to perform abishekam to the main deity made of navabashana idol on the hill temple. They will come on foot to the hills temple from Kodumudi.
A cracker festival will be celebrated at Vaiyapuni tank, as part of this holy festival.
Cultural programmes, including religious discourses, will be organised on the temple premises during the festival days. The Sannadhi of the temple will open at 4 a.m.
The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Madurai) Limited will also operate special buses from neighbouring districts to the temple town for this festival. The temple administration has also made arrangements for pilgrims.
